I am sitting here watching my son play with his new shovel. His old one wore out. He is playing on what was our tree, now just a stump, blown over by the storm. We did not loose a tree; we gained a stage and a mud pit. If he is not leading a new show, including his dad and me of course, the sheer joy in his face as he turns over the soil, again and again, never ceases to amaze me. He does not need every new toy, just a shovel and some dirt; even better if he can find a stick laying in the yard. As he continues in his play, he decides that the tree stump would like to share and he chips off a few pieces of bark to which he puts in the “dog’s corner” to freshen it up. Next, he digs a hole into the dirt to make a home for some bugs. Then he makes a ramp out of the dirt so we do not have to step onto the stump, but can walk up easily.
What if we all took what life presented and made a stage from a stump, a mud pit into glorious joy, a stick into a new tool? Life would be incredible. As events happen in life, let us all remember that it is not what happens, but how we react that creates the life we live. Now go enjoy the mud and walk easily on your path!
P.S. The stage has now become a launching pad and some rockets are blasting off. The count down is beginning, I better go. Every good astronaut needs a flight crew!
