Time to Connect

A young man came to the door. When I first answered, I thought “here we go again.” You would be surprised to discover how many people want to “help” you after a storm. However, this person seemed different. It was clear he was very well spoken as he began his speech. He continued and we began to have a conversation. He was just finishing college, working on paying back loans, helping out his mothers’ friend and finding his way in life. What I found refreshing was his honesty, his relaxed demeanor, his willingness to connect through his story. Although we spent little time talking about what he was selling, after the time with this young man, I was excited about repairing the house. I was ready to move on. Of course we had the person he was representing come out, and he was delightful as well. This person will probably never know what he did for us.

What I found was that when we connect with those around us we can go beyond what is polite conversation. We can listen to the challenges of another and our challenges fade. We can leave behind what is bothering us to provide help or a different option to another. In connecting to the wealth of humanity at our beckoned call, we connect to the One Source, the Infinite Intelligence within each of us. To this young man I say: “Thank you!”
