Unexpected Gifts

Last night my dog woke me up at 2:30am as he needed to "go outside." I pulled myself out of bed and put on my sweats, sweatshirt, gloves and coat. I remembered a time when being woken up in the middle of the night would upset me. Last night, I was not bothered. I know my dog does not mean to wake me; he only needs to "take care of business." I walked outside and although we have been having sub-zero temperatures, I felt warm. As I took him to his corner, I looked up. The stars twinkled and glistened in the early morning hour. Except for his paws upon the snow, no sound was heard. Breathing deeply, I kept my gaze on the sky. I felt and amazing peace as I waited. Life is truly in each moment, here and now. In talking with a friend today, she informed me that last nights' temperature was 14 degrees BELOW zero. How grateful I AM for, in the taking care of another's need, I found a gift in the cold darkness that I did not even know was waiting for me. Today, be on the lookout for unexpected gifts.
